Many are already familiar with the much-celebrated TED Talks. The purpose of these talks is to give inspiration to listeners and to give them helpful insights on life. Drawn to the praise and attention TED has garnered, a few courageous students decided to bring it to the SFS community.

TEDx at SFS began when inspired student Soojin Oh decided to bring the famous talk to our school. However, due to her sudden departure from SFS, Aiswarya Nagasubramony (12) and Anna Cho (12) took over the job and finished organising the event. “It was tedious work” said Aiswarya when asked about the procedures of the complex project. “However, it was all worth it because I am extremely satisfied with the outcome of our program.”

The detailed planning for TEDx started out with the recruitment of four student speakers, two parent speakers, and one faculty speaker. After collecting their speeches, Aiswarya and Anna went through tiring editing processes to make sure that each talk was worthy to represent TEDx by spreading new, innovative ideas.

With the theme of this year’s talk being passion, Ina Kim (10), who spoke at the TEDx event, nodded to its massive success. In her speech she spoke about her passion as an artist and her worries of possible future problems that she might face while chasing her dream of being an illustrator. When asked about the impact she hoped to have made, she replied, “I hope many people were able to relate to my speech and have it become something that motivates them to follow their own dreams.”

Due to the hard work of the organizers, and of the speakers who expressed their thoughts at TEDx, the event ended a huge success, bringing with it a flurry of innovative and inspirational ideas to the SFS community.
